FOUR NEW EDITORS, 46 WRITING AWARDS, 250 COPIES, 100 GUESTS: STUDENT-RUN LITERARY ARTS JOURNAL 12TH EDITION PREMIERE EVENT AT ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE

The 12th edition of St. Philip's College’s student-run Tiger PAWS (Personal Academic Writing Space) literary and art journal http://vp1cg.ngskmc-eis.net/spc/tigerpaws/ was celebrated with a reception led by the college’s department of communications and learning team for 100 guests in the Heritage Room of the college's Campus Center building in the city’s Denver Heights neighborhood.

Such events keep subscribers and new followers aware of the premiere and availability of the latest version of the five-year-old publication, while recognizing the accomplishments of students who are the publication’s contributors and editorial staff scholarship recipients, said college communications and learning faculty member Jamie Miranda.

Four new editorial staff scholarship recipients were chosen from an editorial staff of nine and were introduced during the publication event that was also a presentation of awards for student artwork and writing in both English and Spanish, said Miranda.

Attendees celebrated student success in a program that included presentations of 46 awards to contributors of previously unpublished artwork and writing, readings and displays of many of those works, awards of four Student Engagement Grants and the distribution of 250 free hard copies of the journal, Miranda said.

Organizers announced this week that the journal seeks students to submit writing and artwork or sign up to be an editor for the next edition, with an editorial staff application deadline of March 2 and a content submission deadline of March 9.

Established in 2012, Tiger PAWS is the college’s first student-run literary and arts journal of original, unpublished degree, certificate and transfer candidate work published in hardcopy and online forms at the end of fall and spring semesters at the 119-year-old college. Content consists of short fiction, non-fiction essays and journals, poetry, photography, fine art and digital art. Student editorial staff members learn as they assist in choosing among hundreds of contributed student submissions for publication for each edition. Editorial staff who become paid Student Engagement Grant recipients http://vp1cg.ngskmc-eis.net/spc/studenteditors/ are selected to lead editorial efforts in the college’s fall and spring semesters.

“As always, we were excited to re-introduce the community to our college’s current outstanding contributing writers and artists, while introducing our next editorial team, our editorial staff Student Engagement Grant recipients and our Tiger PAWS twelfth edition in a single publication event. At the same time we are already putting together the editorial team for our next edition,” said Miranda.
